School Break Single and Multi-Day Workshops

Workshop descriptions below include age ranges, number of days, hours each day, and tuition totals.
Please contact us at info@actonart.com if you have any questions.
We recommend that participants bring a snack/drink so we can refuel everyone mid-way through each day. Creating master works takes lots of energy!

Art School Workshops

Children Drawing during Workshop
Art School Workshops are designed for those full-on “art kids” who can spend hours with a variety of art supplies and emerge with smiles and excitement.

Instead of being themed like the rest of our workshops, we hand pick a variety of different projects that have the highest appeal and give children the most opportunities to create their own art, the way they want it.

All kind of amazing animals, objects, vehicles and people may be the result of a fun day at the studio. Plus we always provide guidance and assistance to anyone who needs a little bit of extra support. Participants can expect to work with a wide variety of materials including pens, colored pencils, markers, pastels, watercolor paints, colored papers, and more!

Dragon Discovery

Dragon Painting
Dec 29 - Jan 2
Ages 7 and up
1-4pm
Tuition $480

When kids are attracted to mythology and dragons, they’re often times REALLY into it! And we can completely relate! Dragons are fascinating both in their physical appearance and in the history of their origins. We’ll cover a bit of history (because it’s usually pretty fun) and make a lot of artwork. We’ll use a variety of materials to create Water, Fire, and Air Dragons.  Register for this one early because it’s likely to fill up!

Cool Science

Cool Science Workshop
Dec 30 - Jan 1
Ages 7-18

The ActonArt Cool Science Workshop will guide students through the completion specifications and rubric.
Cool Science is a Public Art Competition for students in grades K-12, held in collaboration with UMass Lowell, UMass Boston, Mass College of Art and Design, University of Kansas, and Kansas City Art Institute.
Competition submission deadline is Jan 10, 2025. Winning entries will be put on display on public buses in Massachusetts and Kansas.
(Participation in the ActonArt Cool Science Workshop is not required to enter the Cool Science Art Competition nor does it guarantee acceptance.)

When kids are attracted to mythology, they’re often times REALLY into it! And we can completely relate! Mythological creatures are fascinating both in their physical appearance and in the history of their origins. We’ll cover a bit of history (because it’s usually pretty fun) and make a couple pieces of artwork. We’ll use a variety of materials to create Dragons, Unicorns, Ogres, and more. And don't forget Magic Wands, Staffs and Fairy Homes, too.   Register for this one early because it’s likely to fill up!

Portrait Painting

Charming Boy oil painting
Feb 16-20
Ages 13 & up
5-8pm
Tuition $480

Few things will help develop painting skills more than portraiture. This workshop will introduce students to a series of projects intended to guide them through the process of creating a portrait painting that demonstrates dimension, light, and color. Students should have an intermediate level of drawing skill (at minimum) and some prior painting experience is recommended. This workshop will include all needed supplies and features watercolor, acrylic and water-soluble oil paints and mediums.

April Workshops - April 20-24

Pirate Patrol Workshop

Wanted Pirate pastel drawing
Apr 20-24
Ages 7 and Up
1-4pm
Tuition $480

ARRRR, THERE BE PIRATES!    Scallywags… we mean students, will be creating ye very own pirates, parrots, finding hidden treasure chests using handmade treasure maps, and a whole lot more over this weeklong workshop. Yar be drawing, painting, and folding origami among the swashbuckling projects planned, so buckle up and get ready to have a good time or ye may be forced to walk the plank.

Printmaking Workshop

Linocut
APRIL 20-24
Ages 13 & up
5-8pm
Tuition $480

This 5-day workshop will take students through the print-making processes of Monoprinting, Linocut, and Drypoint. Making prints is especially fun since there’s always that anticipation and surprise of the FIRST print made! Monoprints are ALL first prints, but Linocuts and Drypoints offer students the opportunity to create repeat prints and variations. Subject matter will be the student’s choice. There’s nothing quite like print making where one “original” can make multiple pieces of art.
