Lots of kids love art, and we see a huge range of skills during the summer. This workshop is designed to provide a short, but content filled series of projects that will improve any child's drawing skills. The projects will be similar to many of our regular curriculum-based trimester classes where we focus on basic, core skills that can improve results no matter what kind of subject matter is chosen. And we'll be drawing things that kids find appealing like birds, land and sea animals, insects, cartoon characters, and more. We'll also poll each class to find out what they really want to draw so everyone will be able to work on a favorite. We'll even be teaching materials techniques for a number of drawing projects with supplies like Copic markers, soft pastels, color pencils, watercolor paint and more. All materials used in the studio are very high quality, and included in the tuition. If your child enjoys drawing and you'd like to see them improve their skills, this is an ideal way to spend a fun and rewarding week of the summer.

MANGA 1 DRAWING WORKSHOP (ages 10 and up) Jun 28-July 1, July 19-22
MANGA 2 DRAWING WORKSHOP (ages 12 and up) — July 6-9, July 26-29
$168 all materials included
Manga has continued to become more popular every year we have offered the classes. It appeals to kids in ways that conventional art does, but since it's story-driven it goes far beyond purely visual art forms. And it compels kids to think in sophisticated ways where the narrative requires the art to convey information needed for the story to make sense.

This workshop is a great way for anyone who is interested in Manga to jump in and try it. We'll be presenting projects that teach core Manga character drawing techniques. We'll cover such topics as faces, bodies, clothes, hair, facial expressions, body perspective and distortion, panel compostion and more. Naturally each group will have kids with different skill levels so the actual projects presented will be adjusted to match the participants.

(One WARNING to note: many kids who love drawing and art are not fond of Manga. We suggest that you NOT put them in this program. Anyone being registered in this workshop should know what Manga is, and find it appealing or they are likely to be unhappy.)

WATERCOLOR WORKSHOP (ages 10 and up) — July 12-15
$175 all materials included
Watercolor is a wonderful medium that allows for a lot of creative freedom and has to potential to produce unique and beautiful results. A lot of kids love watercolor and get itchy fingers when they get those soft sable brushes in their hands! This workshop will expand the meaning of watercolor to include a number of non-traditional mediums like water-soluble oil pastels, watercolor pencils and water based acrylic paints or inks. Student art will be created both by making initial drawings as well as free painting without guide drawings. Since all of these projects are going to lead to water-based color applications participants should really enjoy working with these materials! Please speak with your children to be sure they understand the content of this workshop.

FIGURE DRAWING WORKSHOP (ages 12 and up) 3 DAY, EVENING PROGRAM — July 13-15, July 27-29
$85
all materials included

Figure Drawing is typically offered as a self-guided, walk-in type class, often with little or no guidance from an instructor. That may be fine for artists who simply want access to a cheap model but it doesn't provide much for young students who want to learn body drawing skills. Our Figure Drawing workshop provides a series of lessons that include a light overview of anatomy and drawing from photos on Day 1. The next day is comprised of half a class of photo reference drawing followed by a second half with a live model. Day 3 provides a full class of live model drawing so students can apply any or all the information they've learned in a series of short and long poses. Models will be fully clothed (shorts and tank top, etc.). Students must be 12 years of age minimum or have permission from the director if younger before registering. This class is limited in size so we recommend you register early if possible.
