The Erica Leafquist Scholarship

Erica Leafquist

Now Erica's parents, Kathy and Eric, with ActonArt, have established the Erica Leafquist ActonArt Scholarship to honor Erica's memory, love of art, and her joyous time spent at ActonArt. The scholarship will cover all costs for the Fall trimester (12 weeks) of art classes at ActonArt for the student selected.

You can learn more about Erica's life and see some of her art at www.ericaleafquist.org.

Erica Leafquist was a young girl who loved art and began taking art classes at ActonArt when she was in first grade. She enjoyed many years of lessons at ActonArt and loved the interesting projects and kind, caring teachers there. Erica was afflicted with a rare form of leukemia when she was just four years old. She battled this disease with determination and dignity as she endured two bone marrow transplants and years of chemotherapy and radiation. Throughout her challenges, art remained her faithful companion, offering a creative outlet and solace during grueling treatments. Art provided a way for her to express her love for life as drawings and paintings that cancer could never take away.

Sadly at the age of 14, after ten years of fighting, Erica passed away. But she never gave up and she loved art and life for as long as she could.

Would you like to help pass
the gift of art on to others?

If you would like to apply for either the Erica Leafquist Scholarship or the Founders' Scholarship please click here to fill out our application. There is a short essay (500 characters or less) that we require. The essay should describe why you or your child would like to take art classes at ActonArt and what this scholarship will mean to you. If applicants are 10 years of age or older we would like some portion of the essay to be written directly by them as well. Applications must be received by September 1, 2024.

The Founders' Scholarship - John Goodnough and Joanne Leunig

In 2003, John Goodnough and Joanne Leunig launched ActonArt with the belief that drawing and art enrich lives in ways that go far beyond the artwork that results. For more than twenty years, the studio has invested in skilled teaching artists and high-quality art materials, even for its youngest beginner students. John and Joanne are funding this scholarship to help students who need financial assistance to participate in ActonArt’s programs.  The Scholarship will cover one class for the Fall, Winter and Spring Trimesters.
