Welcome to our summer online classes and workshops. As much as we wish everyone could spend time with us at the studio this summer it seems prudent that we plan for a continuation of social distancing. If things improve it will be a much easier transition to move classes back into the studio…but we'll have to keep our fingers crossed for that!
The Classes and Workshops schedules listed below are set. Detailed descriptions will follow. Providing online programs that include supplies is a much more complicated process. We ask that you bear with us as we navigate the how-when-where of acquiring and distributing supplies to students. Information updates will be made as soon as possible.

Manga Crashcourse (OPEN)
This workshop teaches the popular drawing style known as Manga or Anime. Artwork like this can be seen in many forms, from the comic books “Manga” to the television shows “Anime” and many other products like toys and games. Though this artwork has a very broad appeal, and is cartooned it is also quite challenging to master. Throughout this workshop students will learn the fundamentals of how to draw Anime and Manga. We will go through how to draw everything from eyes, faces and hands, to full action poses and cute chibi characters. Students are encouraged to draw their own characters throughout the workshop, and will be shown how to make exciting images with them in it.
Ink drawing techniques (OPEN)
This workshop will be focused on the techniques used when working with ink.  Being such an old material, and having been used all around the world, there are many ways in which ink has been used.  Over the course of this workshop we will be using some of the most significant and impressive of these methods. Using materials such as dip pens, brush pens, and fine liners, students will learn fundamental techniques used by master artists.  If you want to create artwork that is rich with contrast and history, this is the workshop for you.
Intermediate Portraiture
Have you mastered the art of making a face look human, but not quite like the human you want? Do you have trouble with fine shading and making people look compelling? This is the workshop for you then! Over two days this workshop will lead you through the techniques needed to make a compelling likeness, and realistic shading.  After this workshop you will be equipped with the knowledge necessary to tackle challenging and rewarding portraits.
Graphite drawing techniques
Over the course of this workshop students will learn all the fundamental skills for working with graphite.  Probably the most abundant art material, since it is contained in every pencil, graphite can be used to create beautiful artwork.  Techniques such as smudging, and blending will be explained in addition to using various specialized materials in just a few days.  If you want to improve your skill with the pencil, this is the perfect place to do it.
Persian Miniatures (OPEN)
Students will learn how to draw a miniature style figure and landscape, A brief description of miniature paintings as well as design in the traditional Persian style will be taught.
The same style has been used in old Persian book illustration, tiling and carpet design.
Students can be creative in this class and choose from a variety of images that will be taught to them to use in their final panel.
Learning the traditional motifs of different cultures and centuries can flourish talent and innovation in students, so we recommend this workshop being taught by our own Persian instructor Sahar.
Basic supply kit will be provided.
Portraits for Beginners (OPEN)
Want to draw portraits but every time you try you end up with an emoji smile? This is the workshop for you! Over two days we will go over the fundamentals of facial structure and basic features.  We will talk about how and where to put features on a face, as well as how to make a good looking head shape.  And when we’re done you will have enough knowledge to start drawing portraits with confidence.

When done students will have an understanding of the basic methods of how to draw in these popular styles.
Polymer clay Sculpture
This workshop will cover the methods used for working with polymer clays such as Sculpey and Fimo,  We will cover many basic techniques for mixing and applying clay, as well as how to bake it.  Students who take this class will have at least two small sculptures, as well as the skillset and materials to make more at home.
